We are in the 21st century. We expect humans to be evolved but we are in fact going backward. We would expect humans to respect each other and not to judge or compare or degrade someone for their gender, caste, religion, sexual orientation, social and economic status. Sadly this is the reality.
In India, we give importance to our religion, traditions, and social norms, which have been bent according to selfish patriarchy. If we truly comprehended the Hindu and Islamic scriptures one would understand that it gives equal importance from a microscopic bacteria to the blue whale in the ocean. But patriarchy has been engulfed in our blood and oxygen so deeply that one cannot even imagine how we have created this imbalance and equality in the society. We cannot even fathom its roots and it is beyond one's reach to change it at once. Still people and trying to show the society how patriarchy like white ants have eaten, created cracks, and have weakened the societies across the globe.
Reformers have been emphasizing the value of each and everyone to be educated. Educated enough to speak up for themselves to raise one's voice when there is injustice and when someone is committing a crime. To understand the difference between right and wrong. Still, patriarchal society objects, ridicules, and harasses people when someone goes against it.
Violence against women is their way to suppress women. In order to not let them defeat a succeed and become financially independent or take life decisions without being conditional on a man. In a country like India where women are not only worshipped during religious festivals but daily and regularly. This country commits crimes such as rape, honor killing, murder, domestic violence, deprived of basic human rights, splashing acid on someone every day just because she is biologically different from them. When someone raises their voices against such heinous crimes they vanish and one cannot even find them under the magnifying glass. "Main Devi Hun" is simply reflecting the unfathomable corrosion created by patriarchy in the society that we still live in.
